Class-based Recognition of 3D Objects Represented by Volumetric Primitives

چکیده
This paper presents a novel approach to recognizing 3D complex objects that have similar geometric structure but belong to diierent sub-classes. Test scenes are acquired by a laser striper as range images, and the objects are modelled using a composite volumetric representation of superquadrics and geons. Matching is decomposed into two stages: rst, an indexing scheme designed to make eeective use of the symbolic keys of the representation is implemented in order to direct the search to the models containing the parts identiied; second, a method is proposed where the hypotheses picked from the index are searched using an Interpretation Tree algorithm combined with a quality measure to evaluate the bindings and the nal valid hypotheses based on Possibility Theory, or Theory of Fuzzy Sets. The valid hypotheses ranked by the matching process are then passed to the pose estimation module.

Construction of 3D Volumetric Objects for a 3D Cadastral System
This article presents a new method to illustrate the feasibility of 3D topology creation. We base the 3D construction process on testing real cases of implementation of 3D parcels construction in a 3D cadastral system. With the utilization and development of dense urban space, true 3D geometric volume primitives are needed to represent 3D parcels with the adjacency and incidence relationship. W...
متن کاملPhysics-based Tracking of 3D Objects in 2D Image Sequences
We present a new technique for tracking 3D objects in 2D image sequences. We assume that objects are constructed from a class of volumetric part primitives. The models are initially recovered using a qualitative shape recovery process. We subsequently track the objects using local forces computed from image potentials. Therefore, we avoid the expensive computation of image features. By integrat...
متن کاملConstructive Hypervolume Modeling Using Extended Space Mappings
In this paper, we propose a framework for modeling and deforming heterogeneous volumetric objects defined as point sets with attributes. We propose to use constructive hypervolume objects, where the function representation (FRep) is used as the basic model for both object geometry and attributes represented independently using realvalued scalar functions of point coordinates. While FRep directl...
متن کاملThe structure of three-dimensional object representations in human vision: evidence from whole-part matching.
This article examines how the human visual system represents the shapes of 3-dimensional (3D) objects. One long-standing hypothesis is that object shapes are represented in terms of volumetric component parts and their spatial configuration. This hypothesis is examined in 3 experiments using a whole-part matching paradigm in which participants match object parts to whole novel 3D object shapes....
متن کاملThe role of surface-based representations of shape in visual object recognition.
This study contrasted the role of surfaces and volumetric shape primitives in three-dimensional object recognition. Observers (N = 50) matched subsets of closed contour fragments, surfaces, or volumetric parts to whole novel objects during a whole-part matching task. Three factors were further manipulated: part viewpoint (either same or different between component parts and whole objects), surf...
